The expected move is the price range options traders are pricing in before an event. It's derived from the at-the-money straddle — the cost of buying both the call and the put at the strike nearest the stock price. That premium is what the market charges for one standard deviation of movement.
A common approximation puts the 1σ move at about 85% of the ATM straddle price. The stock is expected to finish inside that ±1σ band roughly 68% of the time through the chosen expiry. A move beyond the band means options were underpricing the risk.
